Do Jiufen and Shifen together in a day, changing trains at Ruifang. Give Yehliu, Yangmingshan or Keelung half a day each. Every bus and train below takes an EasyCard.
Where are you going?
- Jiufen and Shifen in a day: train from Taipei to Ruifang, then the Pingxi line to Shifen. Come back to Ruifang and take a bus, or a taxi for NT$220, up to Jiufen for the evening. Return to Taipei on bus 1062.
- Jiufen: an old gold-mining town of teahouses and lantern-lit lanes, with the Gold Museum next door at Jinguashi. Take bus 1062 direct from Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT, exit 2.
- Shifen: sky lanterns over the railway, a waterfall, and the Pingxi line’s old mining villages. Take bus 795 from Taipei Zoo MRT, NT$45.
- Yehliu: a cape of sea-carved rocks, including the Queen’s Head. Take Kuo-Kuang bus 1815 from Taipei Bus Station.
- Yangmingshan: volcanic fumaroles, Taipei’s highest peak and seasonal flowers. Take bus Red 5 from Jiantan MRT.
- Keelung: Miaokou Night Market and Heping Island’s rock coast. Take the train to Keelung station.
- Jiufen or Shifen from a cruise ship at Keelung: walk to Keelung station and take the train to Ruifang. See Keelung.
If it doesn’t go to plan
- Bus 1062 full? Take bus 788, 825, 827 or 856 down to Ruifang, then the train.
- Just missed a Pingxi line train? Take bus 795 from Shifen to Taipei Zoo MRT.
- Raining? Go to Jiufen: its teahouses and the Gold Museum are indoors. Yehliu and Yangmingshan are best in dry weather.
